Terms

Terms of service

Draft — under legal review. This is a plain-English draft to show how we intend to work with firms. It isn't final and isn't yet a binding agreement. Design partners sign a separate written agreement.

1. Who these terms are between

These terms are between Meruit and the law firm that signs up (“your firm”). The person who accepts them confirms they can do so for the firm.

2. What Meruit is, and isn't

Meruit is software that helps law firms run their practice. Meruit is not a law firm and doesn't give legal advice. Your firm's lawyers are responsible for the legal work, including checking anything Meruit suggests, such as chronology entries, limitation dates and draft letters, before relying on it.

3. Your firm's data

  • Your firm owns its data, including client information and documents.
  • We use it only to provide Meruit to your firm. We don't sell it, and we don't use it to train AI models.
  • We only use AI providers that agree not to retain your data or train on it.
  • You can export your data, and when you leave we delete it after a period we'll set out in the final terms.

4. Medical records

We'll sign a HIPAA business associate agreement with your firm before you upload real medical records. Until it's signed, please don't upload them.

5. Your responsibilities

  • Keep sign-in details private and use two-factor sign-in, which Meruit requires.
  • Give access only to people at your firm who need it, and use restricted matters where your conflict rules call for them.
  • Use Meruit lawfully and in line with your professional obligations.

6. Fees

Fees are set out in your order or on our pricing page at the time you sign up. Paid plans are charged monthly for the firm unless we agree otherwise. Design partners' pricing is set out in their agreement.

7. Availability and changes

We work to keep Meruit available and secure, but no software is perfect. We'll tell you in advance about changes that materially affect how your firm uses Meruit.

8. Ending the agreement

Either side can end the agreement as set out in the final terms. When it ends, you'll have time to export your data before we delete it.

9. Liability

The final terms will set out the limits of each side's liability. This section is being drafted with our lawyers.
