Stages

Built around how a PI case actually moves.

Every matter sits at one stage, so you can see your whole caseload at a glance and spot files that have stalled.

  1. 1IntakeThe case has just come in from an enquiry.
  2. 2TreatmentYour client is still being treated; records and bills are arriving.
  3. 3DemandTreatment is done and the demand is being prepared.
  4. 4NegotiationThe demand is out and you're talking to the insurer.
  5. 5LitigationSuit has been filed.
  6. 6SettledAgreement reached; wrapping up.
  7. 7ClosedThe file is closed and kept for the record.

The case file

Parties, dates, notes and documents together.

No more hunting through email folders and shared drives. Everything for the case lives on the matter, and every other feature in Meruit reads from it.

  • Parties with their roles: client, other driver, insurer, witnesses, providers
  • Key dates such as the incident, end of treatment and limitation date
  • Notes from calls and meetings, with who wrote them
  • Documents uploaded to the matter, ready for the chronology and demand

Ethical walls

Restricted matters, for when only some people should see a file.

Mark a matter as restricted and name who can work on it. Everyone else in the firm won't find it in lists or search. Useful when a new hire's old firm was on the other side, or a case involves someone close to the office.

  • Visible only to named team members
  • Hidden from lists and search for everyone else
  • Changes to who has access are recorded

Questions

Who can see a restricted matter?

Only the team members you name on it. Everyone else in the firm won't see it in lists or search, and can't open it. Adding or removing someone is recorded in the activity history.

Can I change the stages?

The stages follow a personal injury case: intake, treatment, demand, negotiation, litigation, settled and closed. Matters move forward or back as the case does.

What goes in the activity history?

Who did what and when: documents uploaded, stage changes, chronology approvals, letters approved and deadlines completed. Nothing in Meruit can edit or delete it.
