Personal injury case management

Personal injury case management software, sized for a small firm.

A PI case touches intake, deadlines, medical records and the demand. Case management software should keep all of it in one file, so your team works faster and clients get answers sooner.

What personal injury case management software is

Case management software, sometimes called practice management software, is where a firm keeps its cases. For a personal injury firm, that means more than a contact list and a calendar. A PI case moves through intake, treatment, records, the demand and negotiation, and each stage produces facts the next one needs.

Good PI case management software keeps those facts in one case file. The client's details captured at intake are still there when the demand goes out. The limitation date set on day one is still on the firm's deadline list two years later. And every document, note and approval is in the matter's history.

Why it matters for a small PI firm

In a small firm, the same facts often get typed five times: into the intake notes, the case file, the calendar, the chronology and the demand. Every re-type is time lost and a chance to get something wrong. Deadlines live in one person's head until that person is on holiday.

Clients feel the difference. When a client calls to ask where things stand, the firm that can see the whole case on one screen answers on the spot. The firm that has to go looking calls back tomorrow. An efficient practice and a good client experience come from the same place: organized cases and work that's ready on time.

What to look for

  • Intake that becomes the case. A conflict check across the whole firm and one step from enquiry to matter, with nothing typed twice.
  • Limitation dates you can trust. A suggested date on day one, confirmed by a lawyer, on a firm-wide list that shows what's overdue.
  • Medical records and a chronology in the same file. Entries cited to the page, and specials that add up from checked entries.
  • Demand letters from your own template. Filled with the case facts and the approved chronology, approved by a lawyer before it goes out.
  • Ethical walls and an audit log. Restricted matters visible only to named people, and a record of who did what that can't be edited.
  • AI that shows its sources. If the software uses AI, every suggestion should point to where it came from and wait for a person's approval.
  • Pricing that suits contingency work. Per-case fees take a bigger bite in your busiest months. Compare a slow year and a busy year.

How Meruit does it

Meruit is a software platform for small law firms, built first for personal injury. Five tools share one case file:

  • Intake and conflict check: record the enquiry, check every name against the whole firm, close spellings included, and get a suggested limitation date.
  • Matters: one workspace per case with parties, stage, key dates, notes, documents and an activity history. Restricted matters are visible only to the people you name.
  • Deadlines: every deadline in the firm in one list, grouped into overdue, this week and later. Limitation dates count only once a lawyer confirms them.
  • Medical records and chronology: upload PDF records and build a chronology where every entry shows its page. On paid plans, AI suggests entries with a checked quote.
  • Demand letters: your template, filled with the facts, approved chronology and specials. A lawyer's approval locks it, and you download it as Word.

What Meruit doesn't do yet: time and billing, trust accounting, settlement statements, a client portal and e-signature. They're on our roadmap, and we won't promise dates until they're close. Pricing is one monthly price for the firm, with a free plan to start: see pricing.
