Intake & conflict check

Know in a minute whether you can take the case.

Record the enquiry while the caller is still on the line. Meruit checks every name against everyone your firm has ever acted for or against, and suggests a limitation date for a lawyer to confirm.

Record the enquiry

The facts you need, in the order you ask for them.

One short form for the details every PI intake needs. Nothing is typed twice: when you take the case, it all moves into the matter.

  • Client name and contact details
  • Incident date and the state it happened in
  • What happened, in your own words
  • Other parties, such as the other driver or property owner
  • The insurer and claim number, if known

Conflict check

Checks the whole firm, not just this year's files.

Meruit searches every contact and party in the firm, including close spellings, and shows where each possible match came from, so you can decide quickly and move on.

  • Matches people and companies, with their role on each matter
  • Catches near-misses like Kowalski and Kowalsky
  • Shows you the match and its source; the decision stays with you

Limitation date

A suggested date on day one, confirmed by a lawyer.

Meruit applies the state's general personal injury limitation period to the incident date and suggests a deadline. It's clearly marked as a suggestion until a lawyer confirms it, and it carries into the matter when you take the case.

  • Suggested from a state-by-state table
  • Never counts until a named lawyer confirms it
  • Exceptions are yours to apply: government claims, minors, discovery rules

How it works

Four steps from phone call to matter.

  1. Record the enquiry

Add the caller, incident, state, other parties and insurer.

  2. Review the conflict check

Look at any possible matches and where they came from.

  3. Check the date

See the suggested limitation date and the state period it's based on.

  4. Convert or decline

Open a matter with everything carried across, or decline the enquiry.

Questions

What does the conflict check search?

Every contact and party in your firm, on open and closed matters alike. It matches names and close spellings, so “Kowalski” and “Kowalsky” both turn up, and shows the role each person had on each matter.

Does Meruit decide whether there's a conflict?

No. It finds possible matches and shows you where they came from. Whether a match is a conflict under your state's rules is a lawyer's call.

How is the limitation date worked out?

From a table of each state's general personal injury limitation period, applied to the incident date. It's a starting point: exceptions such as claims against government bodies, minors or later discovery can change the date, which is why a lawyer must confirm it before it counts.

Can clients fill in an intake form themselves?

Not yet. Today your team records enquiries in Meruit. Web intake forms and a 24/7 intake assistant are on the roadmap.
